Conference on "The Atlantis Case - Looking
for the Lost Land"

The conclusions of the Milos international conference confirm our research

Scientists and researchers from 15 countries gathered at the Milos Conference Center from 11 to 13 July 2005 to share their views on the subject of Atlantis. Experts in the field of archeology, geology, volcanology and other sciences substantiated their views on this hypothesis. At the end of the Conference, in a special round table discussion, the delegates, by consensus, set out 24 criteria for locating the Atlantis resting place to be used by all seekers of lost land. Otherwise the search of Atlantis could well turn into a search for any lost civilization anywhere in the world.

I consider that it was a serious, pioneering event for the Greek data, and the general final conclusions of the conference were important and fully confirm the research and theory of  Atlantis' Museum that we have been formulating for many years.

I present the following 24 criteria agreed upon by the delegates, which a geographical area must meet in order to be designated as the location of Atlantis::

  1. Atlantis must have been an island that either no longer exists or still exists as part of it.
  2. The metropolis of Atlantis had a unique geomorphology, consisting of alternating concentric rings of land and water.
  3. Atlantis was located outside the pillars of Helcules.
  4. Atlantis was larger than Asia and Libya combined.
  5. Atlantis must have hosted a wealthy population with literate, building, mining, metallurgical knowledge and naval experience.
  6. Atlantis should have been easily reachable to the Athenians by sea
  7. At the time of its destruction, Atlantis was at war with Athens .
  8. The metropolis of Atlantis was destroyed by a devastating physical destruction of unprecedented proportions.
  9. Earthquakes and floods of extraordinary violence were the precursors of Atlantis’ destruction.
  10. Atlantis was destroyed 9,000 Egyptian years before the 6th century BC.
  11. On a low hill about 50 stades inland within the capital city itself, an inner citadel was erected to protect the original home of Cleito and Poseidon.
  12. Atlantis had a high population density, enough to suppport a large army composed of 10000 chariots, 1200 ships and 1.200.000 hoplites.
  13. The religion of Atlantis involved the sacrifice of bulls
  14. The kings of Atlantis assembled alternatively every 5th and 6th year to consult on matters of mutual interest and it is during those assemblies that they sacrificed bulls.
  15. After the destuction of Atlantis, the passage of ships was blocked by shallows due to mud just below the surface, the remains of the sunken island.
  16. Atlantis had mineral resources and a rich spectrum of wild and domesticated flora and fauna, including elephants.
  17. The Metropolis of Atlantis was swallowed by the sea and vanished under the water, following the occurrence of earthquakes and floods.
  18. Atlantis had hot and cold water springs, with mineral deposits.
  19. The main region Atlantis (outside the metropolis) was located on a coastal plain of 2,000 x 3,000 stades, surrounded by mountains that reached the sea.
  20. Within the Straits of Gibraltar, Atlantis controled  other States
  21. The coastal plain of Atlantis faced south and was sheltered from the northern winds.
  22. Atlantis had red, white and black rocks.
  23. There were a pattern of irrigation canals in Atlantis.
  24. Impossible natural or geological processes were not involved in the formation and destruction of the Metropolis of Atlantis. Nor could they be responsible for the destruction of a landmass the size of a continent. Also, no natural or geologically impossible process is involved in the formation of hot water sources and the formation of red, white and black rocks.

Opinions were also questioned about the existence of Atlantis, mainly by Professor Christos Doumas, Director of the excavation of Cape Santorini and a member of the scientific committee of the conference, who argued that the "existence of Atlantis is a myth and its search is Utopia"

An exhibition of books related to Atlantis was held in parallel with the conference.
